Introduction Letter

Sophia Elder – Competitive Archer & Ambassador for Women in Sport

My name is Sophia Elder, and I am a dedicated female archer looking to represent and promote an established organization in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories for the next several years. I have a strong background in competitive archery and am committed to both my personal development and the growth of the sport. I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce myself further.

My Archery Journey

I started archery in 2019 at the age of 10. In my very first year competing as a Barebow archer, I placed third nationally and set a Provincial Record. Unfortunately, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 halted competitions, impacting sports across the board. However, during this time, I focused on refining my shot process, improving my understanding of my equipment, and maintaining a rigorous training schedule of 3-4 days per week.

Since then, I have earned numerous achievements, including:

  • Gold medals in several National, Provincial, and Territorial competitions.
  • Holding 13 National Records, 9 Provincial Records, and 2 Territorial Records.
  • Transitioning to Olympic Recurve and becoming the 2023 Number 1 Ranked Female U15 Olympic Recurve Outdoor Archer in Canada.
  • Winning a gold and silver medal at Nationals, along with a gold medal in Archery Canada’s Outdoor Mail-Match.
  • In 2024, I was:
  • Selected to the Archery Canada Next Gen Team.
  • Named Sport North 2023-2024 Female Youth Athlete of the Year.
  • Achieved gold at the 2024 Nationals.

Dedication to Sport & Community

I maintain a steady practice routine, take my training very seriously, and am deeply committed to being both the best archer I can be and a positive ambassador for women in sport.

In addition to competing, I have been actively involved in coaching and mentoring:

  • Coaching beginner archery programs.
  • Assisting in YMCA Girls and Boys archery clinics.
  • Traveling to remote NWT communities to provide archery presentations and coaching.
  • Promoting and developing archery across the Northwest Territories.

High-Performance Training & Travel

With my acceptance into Archery Canada’s Next Generation program, which focuses on training youth archers to achieve Top 8 finishes in World Archery events as adults, my training schedule has significantly expanded. This program requires frequent travel for high-performance training and competitions.

Some of the main locations I travel to for training and competitions include:

  • Ontario & Alberta (Canada) – High-performance training.
  • Arizona, Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and California (USA) – Competitions and training.

Financial Commitment to High-Performance Archery

As a competitive archer, I require access to specialized equipment, coaching, and facilities. This includes:

  • High-quality archery equipment (which requires regular upgrades to stay competitive).
  • Training clinics and coaching from top-level professionals.
  • Mental management coaching.
  • Strength & flexibility training.
  • Tournament entry fees, membership fees, and travel expenses.

Despite being a youth athlete, these costs are substantial. Any support from sponsors would be greatly appreciated to help alleviate these financial burdens and allow me to continue pursuing my archery career at the highest level.

Pride in Representing the Northwest Territories

I take immense pride in representing the NWT in competitions across Canada and beyond. I would also be incredibly honored to represent organizations within the Northwest Territories community. As an advocate for archery and women in sport, I would be a valuable asset to promoting your brand and mission.

I would be grateful for any form of sponsorship, partnership, or support that you may be willing to offer.

Thank you for your time and consideration—I look forward to hearing from you.
